Located in central west Queensland, Longreach is about 1200 kilometres north west of Brisbane, and 700 kilometres due west of Rockhampton. It is known as one of the founding centres for Qantas, serving as the headquarters for the airline between 1921 and 1930.
Longreach is also home to the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, celebrating the pioneers and explorers that made the outback great. The Museum was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1988, on her visit to mark the bicentennial.
