Working alongside our Homeless Persons Program, our specialist HIV team supports people living with HIV in Melbourne today and conducts research to help inform health care workers about the specific needs of the HIV positive community.
Clients come from diverse backgrounds and include a large proportion of long-term survivors as well as families with children, refugees and asylum seekers and people newly diagnosed with HIV.
Many people living with HIV are now ageing, and a higher percentage experience multiple health problems at an earlier age than non-HIV people.
Our HIV team supports people's mental health and provides chronic pain management and palliative care tailored to an ageing population with diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
The team also conducts training programs for our employees and external organisations supporting management of complex issues related to mental health and wellbeing, access to housing, health promotion, mental health and drug and alcohol issues.
