Collaborations for co-design and timely translation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged care research

The recording of Dr Kate Smith’s presentation, Collaborations for co-design and timely translation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aged care research, is unable to be shared.

This presentation described the engagement processes that can be employed to fast-track research findings into aged care policy and practice. A case study of the Good Spirit, Good Life quality-of-life tool was used to illustrate the approach followed for the conversion of research data into a practical, validated resource for older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples now embedded into aged care policy and practice, while building the capacity of Aboriginal researchers, Elders governance, policy makers, and the health and aged care workforce.

The assessment tool measures wellbeing using 12 interconnected factors which are important to older Aboriginal people, and addresses gaps in health and aged care by providing a culturally-informed approach to measuring, understanding and meeting the quality of life needs of older Aboriginal people.
