Puppies moving in as full-time aged care companions

Three Bolton Clarke aged care homes in southeast Queensland have adopted full-time pet therapy dogs after the successful trial of puppy companion Romeo at Bolton Clarke Carrington.
The puppies are now starting to settle into their new roles and routines within the homes at Thornlands, Banora Point and Waterford each providing extra love and support for residents.
Bolton Clarke Darlington Lifestyle Coordinator Kelly says their puppy Daisy has brought a new feeling to the home amongst not only residents but team members as well.
“Having Daisy here has brought so many meaningful moments and a wonderful warmth and companionship,” Kelly said.
“So far she has been spending time with everyone in the common areas and visiting residents in their rooms – she has event dressed up for some of our special events.
“Once she is a little older we will be adding Pet Pamper time to our activity calendar where residents can enjoy grooming her.”
Daisy’s brothers Charlie is now spending four days a week at Bolton Moreton Shores and sister Luna is at Bolton Clarke Talbarra.
Bolton Clarke Carrington recently celebrated their companion Romeo’s first birthday and first year working full-time at the home, and General Manager Sam says his reception has been nothing short of heartwarming.
“We are all very excited knowing that Romeo’s siblings will be bringing the same kind of joy to the other homes,” Sam said.
“Our team and residents have all noticed a positive shift in the atmosphere as Romeo has brought a sense of joy, comfort and companionship to the home.
“It feels like a beautiful ripple effect – one puppy’s impact inspiring a broader movement of care and connection while speaking volumes about the success of this initiative and the value it brings to residents’ lives.”
Each night a team member will take the puppy home to rest and head back in to start their shift the next day. The puppies assist team members during their daily visits saying hello to residents in their rooms, join in on activities and of course make themselves available for plenty of pats and cuddles.
