Myrtle Bank aged care residents visit Paris with new mural

Myrtle Bank aged care residents now regularly join the Paris café set to sip their coffees thanks to a new mural by local artist Athea Mallee.
Residents at Bolton Clarke Carinya voted to highlight their favourite city to visit with the artwork, which has created plenty of excitement.
For Hans, his memories of Paris take him back to the 1940s during World War II and then later when he was visiting his children.
“It was a lovely surprise to see the mural because all of a sudden there was this beautiful space and it was a pleasure to see,” Hans says.
“France is a very beautiful country and the mural captures how lovely it is.”
Carinya General Manager Rita says the mural has created a scenic space for residents and family members to relax and enjoy the views together.
“We asked the residents where their favourite place to travel was from over the years and Paris just kept coming up,” Rita said.
“Even for the residents who haven’t been to Paris now get to feel like they’re there enjoying a coffee.
“When we started the process, we encouraged many of the residents to go down and have a look. Very soon more and more people were down there regularly.”
The mural is centrally placed in the main area of the home with a cosy lounge area and the dining room. While the artist was at work residents would watch her paint while enjoying meals or while they were out and about.
