Marking 20 years at Fairview for Aged Care Employee Day

Bolton Clarke Fairview Personal Care Worker Hayley is marking two decades working at the home putting her love for the job down to the residents.
This Thursday 7 August is Aged Care Employee Day, celebrating the support team members who provide daily care and support for older Australians.
Starting her career in her early 20s, Hayley says she knew the job was made for her after finishing volunteer work at an aged care home.
“In my younger years I was a Girls’ Brigader and one of the components of that was some voluntary work in an aged care home and the rest is history,” Hayley said.
“I came into aged care and have stayed all these years because I really wanted a job that would allow me to help people.
“Now I’m a buddy so I get to mentor students and new staff coming through and impart my wisdom and experience.
“I know how it feels to be the new person and so to now be able to provide the support that I needed when I first started to others, I think is a great opportunity.”
For Hayley caring for residents and their families is a privilege, building meaningful connections and sharing their journey of positive ageing.
“As a Personal Care Worker, we do activities with the residents, we’ll take them to breakfast and support them with their nutritional needs.
“We will get some one-on-one time where we might take them on a walk or support them to do whatever they want to do.
“My favourite part of being a Personal Care Worker is just being there to support the residents and to go the extra mile for them.
This Aged Care Employee Day is extra special for Hayley marking her 20th year at Fairview. She says it’s a time to celebrate the wonderful work all aged care employees do.
“Aged Care Employee Day is important because I think it’s paramount that we celebrate our successes.
“It’s also great to reflect on the positive impact we are bringing to our residents as a team and individuals.”
