Green power contract a win for sustainable energy targets
Not-for-profit aged care provider Bolton Clarke has locked in 100 per cent renewable electricity supply for its three largest Western Australia residential communities in a move which is set to reduce the organisation’s greenhouse gas emissions by 1300 tonnes CO2-e each year.
Chief Financial Officer Megan Millman said the new WA large supply contract would cover residential aged care and retirement living communities at Jurien Bay, Meadow Springs and Menora Gardens.
The communities use a combined total of about 2,600 MWh of electricity each year.
“Negotiation of the new WA contract is part of a significant focus on sustainable energy across our organisation over recent years,” Ms Millman said.
“As an organisation with a national footprint across 87 residential aged care homes and 43 retirement villages, along with support services, we have been tackling this issue from multiple directions.
“With the reduced cost of purchasing renewable energy over the past few years, participating in the GreenPower program, which guarantees 100 per cent renewable supply, made sense when our WA contract came up for renewal.
“Other initiatives over recent years have included expanding the roll-out of solar panels across our residential communities and working with tertiary institutions on design solutions including smart buildings.”
