Glendale aged care celebrates Fiji Independence Day

Bolton Clarke Glendale aged care residents have been treated to a morning of singing, dancing and food to mark Fiji Independence Day (10 October).
Led by the home’s Fijian team members, the Glendale community enjoyed a unique experience learning more about Fijian culture and the importance of the day.
Personal Care Worker Luseane says the celebration is a part of the heart of every Fijian around the world and it’s a special moment to share with residents.
“It reminds us of our beloved nation’s freedom and commemorates our past, present and looking forward to the future,” Luseane said.
“We performed for residents with items and songs of our nation and showcased Fijian culture through a few presentations and speeches.
“During this time we traditionally celebrate by coming together for communal feasts, sharing the love with lovo as our main dish – we wanted to share this with the residents too.
“Everyone had a few samples of the Fijian foods and learnt some things about different aspects of our culture.”
Along with Fiji Independence Day, Glendale residents have been busy in October marking Queensland Seniors Month which celebrates the ongoing contribution of older Queenslanders.
