EKKA festivities come to Cleveland aged care residents

From strawberry ice creams to sideshow alley, Cleveland aged care residents last week enjoyed the full Royal Brisbane Show experience from the comfort of home.
Bolton Clarke Seaton Place residents kicked off EKKA festivities with their own jampacked show, with residents vying for prizes, stocking up on sweet treats and going home with arms full of showbags.
General Manager Kylie says it’s the home’s second year hosting the event and residents and families are eager to make it an annual tradition.
“It’s a walk down memory lane for residents, taking them back to their childhood or times when they took their own children to the EKKA,” Kylie said.
“This isn’t something we get to experience everyday so it’s great to have the opportunity to make a special event with all the things you would usually enjoy at the show.
“We have had a few of our residents judge the dog show, there are plenty of games and we have all been enjoying some dagwood dogs and strawberry ice creams.”
For resident Joan, this time of year brings back many memories heading into the city from her family farm each year.
“We used to bring in our livestock every year for judging and it was such a big event,” Joan said.
“We would be dressed up in our Sunday best but would end up standing in all the livestock’s mess trying to get them all organised!”
