Beerwah residential care home calls for local volunteers

Beerwah local Jill is encouraging locals to get to know residents at Bolton Clarke Glasshouse Views in a bid to increase volunteer numbers at the residential care home.

For almost a decade, Jill and her sister Pat have been visiting the home on a weekly basis helping residents during events and lifestyle activities.

“I’ve been volunteering at Glasshouse Views for about seven years now – ever since my mother lived here,” Jill said.

“Both my sister Pat and I were here often visiting mum and we just started from there, helping out where we could.

“Mum was here for about 11 months and afterwards my sister and I decided to keep coming back to volunteer our time.”

Volunteering has been a very important part of Jill’s life, giving her time to Lifeline prior to taking on her volunteer role at Glasshouse Views.

“I just feel like it doesn’t hurt any of us to give our time. I also think I’m in that age bracket where one day I’d like to think that maybe someone would step up to the plate and do it for me.

“I am fully retired and I’m capable of doing most things the team needs a hand with so I give one day a week and try to give some extra help where I can outside the home like grabbing things for the residents’ raffles.

“It frees the team up, giving them another set of hands and helps get things done in a shorter time frame.”

Glasshouse Views Lifestyle Coordinator Michelle says the home is always open to more volunteers as they can never have too much help.

“We always appreciate a helping hand from volunteers with our lifestyle activities.

“They play a vital role assisting with activities like taking residents on bus trips around the local area, enjoying one-on-one visits or helping to run activities like games and social events.”
