Aged care team reveal hidden talents at Talent Show

Employees at Bolton Clarke’s Darlington home have revealed their hidden talents to aged care residents in a unique Talent Show.
Residents were eagerly awaiting the afternoon of entertainment, which included everything from basketball tricks and dance groups to singing acts and a didgeridoo performance.
Lifestyle Coordinator Kelly says the idea for the talent show came to her when an entertainer couldn’t make it for a Happy Hour earlier this year.
“It was about three months ago, and we were setting up for happy hour when we realised the entertainer hadn’t arrived, so we had to improvise,” Kelly said.
“The lifestyle team popped on some wigs, grabbed some instruments and ended up being the entertainment for the afternoon – singing and dancing.
“After that, all the residents could not stop talking about it, so I thought why don’t we do this more often?”
After preparing since September, the team put their own talents to good use giving residents a bit of an insight into their secret skills or just sharing a laugh.
“Residents only see us doing our job and those everyday tasks around the home, but by doing this it helps to break down those barriers and becomes a good conversation starter,” Kelly said.
Sitting front row for the show was resident Kevin, who said it was very entertaining to watch what each team member had prepared for the day.
“The show was great to watch and I think that it keeps the morale up amongst the residents to see this side of the team,” Kevin said.
“I would love to see this kind of performance more because it is definitely something different!”
