‘Right size’ fits all at Chelsea retirement village

Bolton Clarke’s Chelsea Retirement Village at Maryborough is offering a new affordable living option for local retirees.

Executive General Manager Kim Teudt said the new limited licence option meant retirees could move into the village’s one-bedroom apartments for as little as $80,000 and enjoy all the benefits of village living.

The new option comes as the effects of the housing crisis continue to put pressure on homeowners across the region.

Chelsea resident Gayle Horne says she didn’t expect to feel comfortable so quickly after having to sell her two-storey, two-bedroom home and find something more suitable.

Gayle downsized into an easy-care one-bedroom apartment in 2019 and says the greatest benefit has been the village community and lifestyle.

“It’s hard to make the decision to downsize, but it really is what you make of it. I wouldn’t have managed in my house much longer and now that I’m here, I’m happy,” she said.

“When Shelley, the Village Manager, first mentioned the one-bedroom apartment I thought ‘it can’t hurt to have a look’. Even though it wasn’t what I originally had in mind, when I looked at it I thought, I can manage here!”

“Chelsea is close to everything, like the shopping centre, and it’s convenient for me to get to on my mobility scooter and get out and about.”

Mrs Teudt said flexible payment options meant local retirees could buy into their new home and lifestyle with less financial stress.

“At Chelsea Retirement Village we currently have a number of independent units available with flexible entry options ensuring access to affordable purpose-built and designed units for seniors in the community,” she said.

“Chelsea is pet friendly and residents enjoy community facilities including two heated pools and a spa, a vibrant community centre, barbecue and entertaining areas and the convenience of a 24-hour emergency call system.

“There’s also the advantage of being right next door to our residential aged care services for support if needs change.

“Bolton Clarke has a long history associated with providing connected care and accommodation services and for a limited time, and we are pleased to be offering this option for Maryborough residents.”
