Downsizing’s the new lease on life for Lynette

Bongaree RL - Lynette Phillips (10).JPG

When Lynette Phillips moved from Victoria to Bolton Clarke’s Bongaree retirement village on Bribie Island, she wasn’t expecting to be quite so elated with her choice.

“I felt at home as soon as I came here,” she says of her move in May.

She was also pleased that she could bring her dog with her, a four-year-old Australian Terrier Cross named Lexie.

“This is right for me and I was so grateful that I could have the dog. How lucky am I?! It’s just so good here, and I don’t think enough people know about it.”

Lynette thinks other seniors shouldn’t be afraid to take the plunge and downsize.

“Anyone who wants to move out of their own home or is struggling to keep it maintained, this is the best option for people.

“I downsized and I just found I didn’t need all of my things.”

She says not only was able to keep all the important things but in the process, she has found a new lease on life.

“I felt that I wasn’t doing any real living. I wasn’t seeing people and I didn’t have the community around me that I have here. It’s not so big that you can’t get to know your neighbours.

“You don’t feel alone. Everyone’s very friendly! Lexie gets lots of pats – she’s happy, and I’m happy. It’s peaceful.”

Lynette says that peace of mind comes from the knowledge that she’s safe and secure in her new home with support from village manager Sharon Rogers. The flexible financial options on offer made the purchase stress-free, guided by sales consultant Michael Mulligan.

“Michael was helpful, he listened to me and he delivered! I was extremely grateful that there was an offer that I could make work financially. It was an opportunity to have somewhere permanent to live that was secure.

“I don’t think people appreciate retirement villages as much as they should. You’re not restricted at all – and there’s assistance if you need it. If you can’t cook anymore there’s options available, and Sharon is lovely, all you need do is ask her and she gets things done!

Lynette says the village offers her both privacy and flexibility with plenty of space to entertain.

“The homes aren’t all stuck together, so I’ve got my own space and I can do as much or as little as I’d like. I’m even doing a bit of redecorating.

“The beach is a five-minute walk away and it’s nice to have the swimming pool too. I’m looking forward to using that in the warmer months.

“Lexie and I love our new home. I’m much happier here.”
