Moments decision brings marvellous life

For Kathy and Gene Rosenblatt, a whirlwind decision five years ago led to new friendships and the comfort of safety and security in their home at Bolton Clarke’s Fernhill retirement village in Caboolture.

 “We came to an open day at the village with no intent to buy and we ended up signing up that day!” said Kathy.

“In three months, we sold the house and moved in!”

Kathy says that though the decision came quickly, it was the natural choice.

“We moved because Gene had been undergoing chemo. It’s led to a more relaxed life.

“I love that we’ve got people around us who are great neighbours and friends. We can get involved as much as we like, with activities and the social club.”

Kathy and Gene met by chance in 1966 when Gene was in the police force and Kathy in the army.

“I think I charmed him,” said Kathy. “We were both parading at Kelvin Grove the next Tuesday. We met up afterwards!”

They didn’t marry right away, as Gene left the police and joined the air force which took him down south. Their connection stayed strong and they were married in 1976, ten years after meeting.

“I don’t know what I’d do without her,” Gene said.

For the pair, knowing the retirement village is co-located with Fernhill’s aged care community was a drawcard to the move.

“It’s a big plus,” Kathy said. “It’s there if we ever need it, which is great.”

The support at their door doesn’t stop there, with Bolton Clarke’s at home support team on site, and a gym and café opening soon too.

“I’d like to use the gym when it opens, and the café – that will be good too, to catch up with friends.

“We plan to start a walking club around town, and we’ll finish our walks over a cappuccino in the café.

“It will be a great place to catch up with friends and visitors.”
