Breaking Ground on new Fernhill aged care community

The Bolton Clarke Fernhill aged care community in Caboolture has celebrated a milestone with a Turning of the Sod ceremony to mark the end of demolition and the next stage of developments.

Long-term residents Marg Wachter, who grew up playing with the site’s original owners, worked in the kitchens and later moved into the community, and Caboolture stalwart Art McClure, 101, officially turned the sod.

Residential Manager Ram Korla said the redevelopment builds on the rich history of Fernhill and positions it to become a contemporary, architecturally designed community that will cater to the growing needs of the Caboolture region.

“The project is based on the things residents said were most important to them and will give people more choices and opportunities around their services with modern, accessible accommodation, the latest assistive technology, retail areas and plenty of green outdoor space,” he said.

“It was co-designed with residents in conjunction with extensive community consultation and three co-design workshops with QUT.”

Construction is well underway at Caboolture with the first stage of Fernhill’s demolition of the independent living units, bowls club, and partial day therapy center complete.

The next stage involves the bulk of the earthworks as the builders from Hansen Yuncken begin to create the underground carpark of the new 162-bed residential aged care facility.

The new residential aged care building will be completed in 2020 and will include modern, accessible rooms in a secure building with the latest enabling technology, grouped in supported neighbourhoods to maximise personalised care.
