Community volunteers helped residents at Bolton Clarke’s Farnorha community in Cairns feel like stars for a day when they took part in a makeover day recently.
Local hairdressers Sue Newton and Teresa Vinen and a team of volunteers donated their time to create a spa for a day and perform 40 makeovers on residents, complete with champagne, strawberries and before and after photographs.
“The residents had a ball – it was a great social day,” Diversional Therapist Natasha McDonnell said.
“Both hairdressers donated their time for hair styling, volunteers donated their time to do the makeup and staff members took the photographs.
“Families were invited and there were some mothers and daughters who enjoyed the day together.
“Everybody was talking about it for weeks afterwards.
“Now we’ve given before and after photographs to residents and their families, and we’re even thinking of making a calendar!”
Natasha said hosting the day had been a dream for the Farnorha team, and it was wonderful to see the excitement the event had created.
