Hampers on the way to homeless clients

Teams across Bolton Clarke’s Victorian services have pitched in to support people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness this Christmas.

Each year, Bolton Clarke’s Homeless Persons Program (HPP) works with RACV, which provides food items and packs hampers for distribution by HPP nurses.

This year, teams from across Bolton Clarke’s four Melbourne regions collaborated to collect additional treats for the hampers.

HPP team members purchased about $2000 of staple food items to add to the packs.

In total, 150 hampers were packed for distribution by the HPP’s 40 nurses.

In 2016-17, Bolton Clarke’s Homeless Persons Program provided 43,000 visits to 2,815 clients, including 767 people with no fixed address.

The team is also at the forefront of tackling the growing issue of homelessness in suburban areas and in addition to providing clinical care and connecting people with essential services has implemented a variety social and recreational programs including a community garden, cooking sessions, lawn bowls and a Pets in the Park program.
