Fernhill redevelopment recognised at awards

Bolton Clarke’s Fernhill redevelopment project at Caboolture, north of Brisbane, has been named runner-up in the Best Silver Architecture (In-Construction) category at the 6th Asia Pacific Eldercare Awards.

It’s fitting that the honour was announced in May, the same month that the first 80 Veterans moved in at the site, donated by the Newman family, in 1950. The existing Fernhill community, including residential aged care, retirement living and day therapy centre, developed over the ensuing decades.

The redevelopment project, set to break ground in September after preliminary works over coming weeks, will build on this rich history and position Fernhill to become a contemporary, architecturally designed community that will cater to the growing needs of the Caboolture region.

The collaborative masterplan was co-designed with residents, their families, friends and community members and will replace existing facilities with the latest innovations in aged care and retirement living.

The redevelopment will mean Fernhill can better support clients and residents to stay active, independent and engaged.

“Our community contributed a number of features to the final design including an urban streetscape, natural meeting points, outdoor spaces and community gardens to facilitate social interaction among residents, while a public plaza with street art will invite the wider community to continue to be part of Fernhill,” Bolton Clarke General Manager – Property Development and Asset Management James Mantis said.

Work will start in July on a new state-of-the-art multi-storey residential aged care (RAC) building for 162 residents, which will be completed in 2020.

It will include modern, accessible rooms in a secure building with the latest enabling technology, and a world class dementia care environment designed to promote choice and freedom with quiet spaces, way-finding support and an indoor-outdoor environment.

Bolton Clarke was a finalist in four categories at the Asia Pacific Eldercare Awards and was a winner in the Innovation of the Year (food) category.
